Each month we focus on a different topic at our meetings. Below is a summary of our most recent topic along with the Continued Conversation hosted by Matt Schwartz as he interviews our guest speakers.

Healthcare Reform - Backward or Forward?

In April we welcomed Douglas L. McSwain has been a litigator, legal advisor, speaker, and writer in constitutional, administrative, civil rights, employment, healthcare, trade, and business law for over 30 years. McSwain has been named a "Best Lawyer in America," "Kentucky Super Lawyer" and "Top Rated Lawyer" in health care law, civil rights law, and first amendment issues, labor, employment, municipal and appellate litigation. He is a partner with the law firm of Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs, LLP, in Lexington, Kentucky. He spoke about the changes with the Affordable Care Act (ACA). You can view his slides here.

 

Back at our meeting in November it was announced that the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet and Operation UNITE are launching a new substance abuse call center that will connect people across the state with drug treatment. Beginning Dec. 1, Kentuckians struggling with a substance use disorder, either themselves or within their families, can call 1-833-8KY-HELP (1-833-859-4357) toll-free to speak with a specialist about treatment options and available resources. The specialist will conduct a brief screening assessment in order to connect callers with the most relevant treatment services as quickly as possible. Who We Are

The Worksite Wellness Council of Louisville began as the worksite wellness committee of the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement which met regularly to discuss how to assist employers in developing effective worksite wellness programs. In re-branding itself as the Worksite Wellness Council of Louisville, it has focused its energies on providing employers with educational activities and resources to develop and grow their wellness programs.

To foster healthy work environments by acting as the resource for worksite wellness in metro Louisville and facilitating cultures of health among employers.

Vision

To become one of the healthiest cities in the country by facilitating a culture of health through the development of sustainable worksite wellness programs, promotion of healthy lifestyles and providing support access to essential resources.

The Worksite Wellness Council of Louisville includes representatives from:

Employers with successful or new worksite wellness programs;

Employers interested in starting a worksite wellness program;

Vendors that provide services needed for worksite wellness programs, such as smoking cessation educators, wellness program consultants and physical fitness organizations.

 

Meet our Board of Directors

 
 Allison is the employee wellness director at Norton Healthcare. The N Good Health department focuses primarily on population health and wellness initiatives with Norton Healthcare’s workforce. Allison has been part of Norton Healthcare since 2009 and prior to that, worked with CSX Railroad as a wellness case manager and did personal training at Indiana University’s Recreational Sports facilities. Allison holds BS and MS degrees in Kinesiology from Indiana University. Allison also has her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Indiana University Southeast.

 Dan is the Operations Manager for the Center for Health & Wellness at Sullivan University and is on faculty at Sullivan University College of Pharmacy.  He has a BS in Human Biology from Brigham Young University, an MHA from The University of Memphis, and is currently completing a PhD in Strategic Management, focusing his research on improving healthcare delivery systems.  Prior to Sullivan, he worked in operations and project management for multiple hospital systems, as well as ancillary services in long-term care and home health.

She is a partner in a tire recovery and recycling business – an important environmental issue – and her commercial property leasing company has purchased and cleaned up several abandoned commercial properties.

 Tiffany Cardwell is currently a Principal Consultant with MCM CPAs & Advisors LLP. Her expertise lies in over twenty years of experience in domestic and international human resources and has experience in all areas of HR including leadership coaching and development & talent management. Tiffany has worked in several industries and top global companies including Trans Union LLC in Chicago, Humana, Papa John’s International Inc. and Signature HealthCARE. Tiffany has a BA in English from Northwestern University and an MSIR degree in Global HR Management from Loyola University. She is the LSHRM Director of Wellness, the Regional Chair for the local American Lung Association, the Board Development Committee Chair for Girl Scouts, a Strategic Board Member for Boy Scouts as well as part of GLI’s Talent Steering Committee.

Jonathan has acted as the conference chair for the Louisville Worksite Wellness Council since 2017. Jonathan brings nearly 10 years of experience in Healthcare & Employee Benefits, and has served in numerous roles including sales, business strategy, business development and most recently working with employers in designing employer/employee well-being solutions. Jonathan holds a MBA from Florida A&M University, as well as professional licenses in Life & Health Insurance. When away from work, Jonathan and his wife enjoy exercising, cooking, seeking out new travel adventures, and spending time with family.

She directs the department’s integrated communications strategies which include internal and external communications, social media, social marketing, special event planning and public affairs. Kathy has a BS degree in Communications from James Madison University and completed Advance Project Management Training from the University of Louisville Delphi Center. When not working, Kathy and her husband enjoy exploring back roads on their Harleys.

She has worked with over 200 companies in the Louisville metro area providing services such as lunch and learns, biometrics, and health fairs. Sonya received her D.C. degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Ia and her undergraduate studies from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Ia.  Outside of the office, she spends her time  at Crossfit, with her husband, or transporting her two teenagers around town.
